It is important that the State is there to help people when they need help and is a safety net for people who fall on hard times. Overall, the number of people on out of work benefits in Royal Wootton Bassett South is below the national average.

In short, the most recent data shows that only 1.6% of people in the ward are on Job Seekers Allowance (JSA). Natioanlly the figure is 3.2%. Of more concern is the fact that the percentage is higher than natioanl figures for under 24s and over 50s.

The total percentage of people on ‘out of work’ related benefits is 8.8%. This includes people on disability allowance, incapacity benefits, job seekers allowance, carers, the bereaved, and lone parents. Nationally the figure is 14.3%.
